According to Catalyze Tech, “A true paradigm shift first requires a mindset shift. Tech’s current paradigm is often dispersed, individual and short-term—put simply, tech companies often poach each other’s diverse talent. Individual companies must take action to root out systemic bias in their own hiring practices, but that alone won’t move the needle on representation…diversity alone is not enough. It doesn’t work to just ‘add diversity and stir.’ A paradigm shift must combine multiple elements.”
One week ago, huge tech companies like Netflix and Snap Inc. signed Catalyze Tech’s ACT report. This new initiative aims to propel the tech industry forward to better tackle DEI issues. It provides a framework for action based on four recommended goals: inclusive leadership, operationalizing DEI, sharing data and goals, and creating more pathways into tech. This report is a great call to action to make companies seriously think about where they are at and what needs to be done.
Seeing so many large companies sign this pledge shows progress in the right direction. Now that they have concrete goals across the tech industry, it is imperative that they follow through on their signatures. However, tackling a huge diversity plan like this one requires commitment and cross-functional collaboration. ideascape can help you navigate this tough process.
