Women In The Workplace Are Burning Out

The annual Women in the Workplace report is out, and the results are disheartening.

“The state of working women hangs in the balance… Companies risk losing the very leaders they need right now, and it’s hard to imagine organizations navigating the pandemic and building inclusive workplaces if this work isn’t truly prioritized. There is also a disconnect between companies’ growing commitment to racial equity and the lack of improvement we see in the day-to-day experiences of women of color.”

Despite bold statements about gender equality and pay equity, women remain systematically disadvantaged in the workplace. So what does this mean for organizations? It means that simply recognizing and stating that there is a problem is not enough. Instead, organizations must be active and deliberate allies to all female employees, particularly women of color.

“The workplace is undergoing what the report calls a “seismic shift.” Hybrid work is here to stay. The blurring of boundaries between work and life means that business leaders must now make room for discussions once regarded as purely private (about work-life balance and challenges with caregiving). The urgency around advancing diversity, equity, and inclusion has never been higher.”
